On Friday 5th December 2014, I had the absolute pleasure of going to see the Broadway revival of the wonderful Les Miserables.
From the moment of entering the theatre and seeing the stage setup, it was easy to tell that this was going to be something special. The level of detail that had clearly gone into everything was absolutely stunning (both the sets, and later the costumes).
From the moment the curtain rose, until the moment it came down, the entire audience was in the hands of the wonderful talent on stage. The performances of all were enrapturing, the staging was sublime, and the orchestra were terrific. Everything came together brilliantly to form an incredible show. Special credit must go to Ramin Karimloo for being consistently the best leading man I have seen in musical theatre, Will Swenson for a brilliant turn as Javert, Nikki M James for a superb performance as Eponine, Samantha Hill as a great Cosette, and of course the spectacular Andy Mientus, who stole the show as Marius.
This is a fantastic new telling of an excellent story. I have seen Les Miserables performed live on 9 seperate occasions, and I can safely say that this was definitely my favourite performance to date. If you get any opportunity to go and see it whatsoever, you should grab it with both hands – you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for reading.
