I’ve just had the pleasure of watching the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries, ‘American Gothic’.
Elena and Rebekah take off in search of Katherine and find themselves in Pennsylvania. Elena has a surprising encounter with another old acquaintance — Elijah, who is still very much in love with Katerina and is working with her to get the cure. Elena tells ELijah about why she turned off her humanity switch, which later causes an argument between Katherine and Elijah, which results in Katherine giving Elijah the cure and letting him decide what happens with it. Rebekah shows up to plead with him, and Klaus calls. Elijah speaks with Klaus, before he and Rebekah head back to Mystic Falls for a gathering of the final 3 Originals.
Stefan and Damon are both concerned about Elena’s state of mind and are determined to do what’s best for her, but she makes it clear that helping her will be difficult even when they find and ‘rescue’ her from the likes of Elijah, Katherine and Rebekah. Damon is not sure how to react when Stefan reveals his unexpected plan for the future – to get the cure for Elena and then leave.
Meanwhile, in Mystic Falls, Klaus receives Caroline’s reluctant help and comes to a new understanding of Silas’ powers. Klaus has been in agony since being staked, and when Caroline shows up he’s thrilled, until it’s revealed that it’s actually Silas, and he taunts Klaus some more. Actual Caroline later shows up and can’t find any broken off stake, and when she starts arguing with Klaus he suddenly can’t feel any more pain – it was all Silas in his head, and Caroline had distracted him.
It was a good episode, which brought back one of everyone’s favourite characters – Elijah. I’m looking forward to seeing how it will progress from here, especially with the interactions with Silas. Also – does Elijah know that Kol is dead? I guess we’ll find out in the next episode.
Thanks for reading.
